When I was a teenager I sewed, knitted, crocheted, embroidered and filled my days with all kinds of creativity. Once I started working the time left for creativity became less and less. After our family grew with son and daughter, the time spend on crafts became even lesser. I missed the creativity and then, after I lost my job because of a reorganization, I suddenly had all the time of the world and picked up on the crafts again. I enjoyed it immensely and in juli 2012 I opened my webshop
www.cornsant.com, in october 2013 followed by the Etsy-shop Cornsant.
I chose Cornsant as name for my shop because of my love for the coast, islands and the sea. History has it Cornsant was the name of the village on the island Bosch, which has been swallowed by the sea hundreds of years ago. The island used to lie in the North Sea, close to where you today will find the Island Schiermonnikoog. The lost Island and its drowned village allways fascinated me and so the choice for Cornsant was unevitable.
I started out with handmade home decorations as pillows, quilts and baskets. In the beginning especially inspired by the coast and sea, later on with more vintage style items as well. Along the way I found all kinds of brocante that went well with my handmade items and so they too entered the shop. Then, looking for things to make that would combine nicely with my sewn products, I discovered cartonnage.
Hopping around on pinterest I found all the great French cartonnage projects. Beautifull boxes and small cabinets, quiet often decorated with lovely embroidery. I really liked them and started looking for a place where I could buy suitable cardboard to make them myself. That turned out to be difficult. Them I stumbled upon Dreamboxes, a Dutch brand of cartonnage kits. I started using them and enjoyed it so much that I started selling them as well. So today you'll find both ready made boxes by me in the shop and the kits to make them yourself. I can really recommend them, especially to those of you that haven't worked with cartonnage before. The kits save you a lot of time and make it possible to concentrate on the decoration before you start with the more tricky and precise work of cutting your own cardboard. Have a try!
Look around and enjoy your time 'in Cornsant'!
